MARQ Trustees was proud to sponsor the Carbon Market Institute’s 4th Singapore Carbon Market and Investor Forum, held on 27 August 2026.
As an official event partner, Managing Director Andrew Patrick and CFO Matthew Haynes represented MARQ Trustees among more than 130 delegates from over 15 countries. Leaders from government, business, finance and the carbon market community came together for a full day of discussion and connection.

Key themes from the day
Three words came up repeatedly throughout the day: integrity, consistency and existence. Investors need confidence that what they are buying is real, that claims are not overstated, and that the risk of reversal is understood and managed. International consistency and mutual recognition will be central to building that confidence.
Two observations from the day stood out:
- “People celebrate signatures, but signatures create exposure.” Commitments create obligations that must be governed, documented and honoured long after the announcement.
- “Winners won’t be the greenest projects, it’ll be the projects that balance good with economics.” Environmental merit matters, but capital also requires credible structures, sound governance and commercial discipline.
Why this matters for fund managers and advisers
For fund managers, and for the accountants and lawyers advising clients entering carbon and nature-based strategies, governance and compliance are far more than administrative functions. Structured well, they underpin credibility, build investor confidence and help attract capital.
Mark Sadler of the World Bank also posed a question worth sitting with: what do we mean by “additionality” in the carbon market of the future? It goes to the heart of integrity, and we expect it to stay central as the market matures.
Thank you to the Carbon Market Institute for hosting an excellent forum.
