BACKGROUND
Matt is an expert on the laws governing funds management in Australia.
As the General Counsel for MARQ Trustees, he plays a pivotal role in streamlining legal documentation and processes, particularly in the establishment of investment funds. This integration not only accelerates internal workflows, but also enhances our responsiveness to clients’ needs.
With over 25 years’ experience in delivering complex project and transactional work, Matt excels in structuring and establishing investment funds and financial products. He is well-versed in all facets of corporate law, fundraising, ongoing fund operations, governance, compliance and risk management. This is underpinned by a commercial approach and comprehensive understanding of stakeholder needs across the financial services sector, particularly in funds management and broader financial services.
Matt’s legal career spans both law firm practice and in-house counsel roles. He has served as in-house counsel for leading funds management and real estate services groups, Oliver Hume and Australian Unity Investments. Matt also served as Head of Legal and company secretary for a successful and well-regarded superannuation fund.
